The history of Singapore as a travel destination is rooted in its transformation from a small fishing village called Temasek into a global hub. In 1819, Sir Stamford Raffles established it as a British trading port under the British East India Company, turning it into a key center for international commerce.
During World War II, Singapore was occupied by Japan (1942–1945), which significantly impacted its development. After the war, it gradually moved toward self-governance and gained full independence in 1965.
Under the leadership of Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore rapidly developed into one of the world’s most advanced economies. Today, it is known for its modern skyline, cultural diversity, clean environment, and iconic attractions—making it a top global tourist destination.
